Attack in Las Vegas

At least 20 people have been killed and more than 100 injured by a gunman who opened fire Sunday night at a concert outside a Las Vegas hotel. Country singer Jason Aldean was performing at Route 91 Harvest, a country music festival, and was interrupted by the sound of shots being fired. Several SWAT teams were sent to the hotel, where they faced automatic gunfire, but shortly before midnight, they reported the suspect was down, and did not believe there were any more active gunmen. Video from the shooting shows singer Aldean running off the stage as the shots began.

 

Two Women Killed in France

Two women were stabbed to death at Marseille’s main train station. The assailant was then killed by a military patrol. The police are investigating the possibility of terrorism.

Another attack took place in Canada. A man was taken into custody, suspected of driving two vehicles into pedestrians and stabbing a police officer. Five people were injured. Although an Islamic State flag was found in one of the cars, the police believe the suspect was acting alone.

 

Catalonia’s Referendum on Independence

Hundreds of people were injured as the Catalans took part in the referendum to become independent from Spain. Police officers sent from other parts of the country dispersed voters and seized ballots. Both sides claimed victory. The Catalan government said 90 percent were in favor of splitting off from Spain, while the government in Madrid said the referendum had been interrupted.

That was Mr. Trump’s advice to Rex Tillerson, his secretary of State, telling him to not bother trying to lower tensions with North Korea, after Mr. Tillerson  said over the weekend that the U.S. had direct lines of communication with Pyongyang.
